For the first division club SC Charleroi, Rainer Gebauer played 173 championship games from 1974 to 1980 and scored 50 goals. In 1978 he reached the Belgian Cup final with Charleroi, in which, however, they lost 0-2 to SK Beveren. After finishing his professional career in Belgium with Racing Jet Brussels in the 2nd division, he still played for various clubs in the greater Bonn area ( FV Bad Honnef , Bonner SC ) and also worked as an amateur trainer.
