Rainer Johannes Homburg

Rainer Johannes Homburg (born January 16, 1966 in Gelsenkirchen ) is a German organist, choir director, conductor and composer. He is the artistic director of the Stuttgart Hymn Choir Boys .

Rainer Johannes Homburg grew up in Brazil and Wetter an der Ruhr and studied conducting, church music , organ , musicology and philosophy in Cologne and Detmold .

From 1992 to March 2010 he was cantor and organist at St. Marien in Lemgo , head of the MarienKantorei Lemgo as well as the Lemgo International Organ Days and specialist advisor for church music in the Lippische Landeskirche. In 2002 he was awarded by the Association Ev. Church musicians in Lippe appointed church music director (KMD).

In 2006 he was awarded the council seal by the old Hanseatic city of Lemgo and the "Star of the Year" by the newspaper community of Neuer Westfälischer, Haller Kreisblatt and Lippischer Landeszeitung, each in recognition of outstanding achievements in the cultural life of the East Westphalia region .

In 2008 Rainer Johannes Homburg was awarded the Echo Klassik for the CD recording of the Missa St. Michaelis Archangeli by Johann Caspar Ferdinand Fischer . As a conductor he is also involved in the field of new music. An intensive collaboration connects him with the Northwest German Philharmonic Herford, guest conductors have led him a. a. to the Folkwang Chamber Orchestra Essen .

With “Handel's Company” he dedicates himself to researching early music. On the previous CD recordings, music by Gottfried Heinrich Stölzel from the manuscripts of the 18th century was brought to life again for the first time. Concert tours, teaching and recordings for radio and television round off the picture of his work.

In 2008 he took on a teaching position at the University of Music in Detmold .

Since April 2010 Rainer Johannes Homburg has been the artistic director of the Stuttgart Hymn Choir Boys .
