Rainer Klump

Rainer Klump (born September 27, 1958 in Darmstadt ) is a German economist . He is Professor of Economics and was Rector of the University of Luxembourg from 2015 to 2017 .

academic career

From 1978 to 1983 he studied economics at the universities of Mainz , Paris I (with a scholarship from the Franco-German Youth Office) and Erlangen-Nuremberg . In 1985/86 he completed a research stay in the International Finance Division of the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, DC. In 1987, he was awarded the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Prize of the German Research Foundation for his dissertation . From 1992 to 1997 he was Professor of Economics and Economic Development at the Economics Institute of the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg . From 1997 to 2000 he held the Chair of Economic Policy ( Ludwig Erhard Foundation Professorship ) at Ulm University . From October 2000 to 2015 and since 2017 he has held the chair for economics, especially economic development and integration at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . During this time he was a member of the DFG research group (FOR 756) "Vulnerability to Poverty in Southeast Asia", a founding member of the Cluster of Excellence " The Formation of Normative Orders " and a member of the interregional research program "Africa's Asian Options (AFRASO)". From 2004 to 2009 he was a member of the expert committee for economics of the German Research Foundation. Research stays took him to the University of Lyon II , the University of Paris-Dauphine and Sciences Po Paris.

From 2009 to 2015 he was Vice President of the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main . On January 15, 2015, he took over the post of Rector of the University of Luxembourg . He resigned from this office on May 2, 2017.
