Inspired by the symbolic didactics of Hubertus Halbfas and the biblical didactics of Ingo Baldermann , Oberthür turned to " philosophizing with children " as early as the early 1990s . On this basis he developed concepts and ways to “ theologize with children ”. After didactic foundations in Children and the Big Questions and Children Ask About Suffering and God he turned to children directly with Neles Book of Big Questions and The Bible and Children and everyone in the house and others. In addition, biblical picture books appeared. B. on the Easter, Christmas and Pentecost stories, on the Our Father and on the question of God.

In religious education he stands between university and school, between practice and theory. Like his Bible for children and everyone around the house , many of his works are not intended for ages.
