Rainer Rustler

Rainer Rustler (born November 13, 1958 ) is a former German soccer player. For FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt he played from 1977 to 1982 in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football . Rustler is also a 22-time GDR junior national player.

Athletic career

At the age of 14, Rainer Rustler began his football career in 1972 with FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt. In the summer of 1975 he was appointed to the squad of the GDR junior national team, played 22 international junior matches until 1977 and scored four goals, mostly as a left winger.

The 1.80 m tall Rustler made his debut in the GDR league for FC Rot-Weiß on match day 6 of the 1977/78 season. In the home game against Dynamo Dresden he was used as a right striker. By the end of the season he played a total of 17 times in the league, always in attack. Rustler was not able to continue this good record afterwards and was only used predominantly in the junior league until 1983 . 1978/79 he came to three GDR league games, 1979/80 he was nominated for the league, but was not called up there. Also in 1980/81 he was a nominal league player, but played only one league game. In 1981/82 Rustler was registered for the junior league, but was also used four times in the GDR league. For the 1982/83 season he was back in the league squad, but did not play there. In the preview of the 1983/84 season, FC Rot-Weiß announced that Rustler had ended his active career.
