Rainer Schmidt (landscape architect)

Rainer Schmidt (* 1954 in Gelsenkirchen ) is a German landscape architect , urban planner and professor of landscape architecture at the Beuth University of Applied Sciences in Berlin .

Life

Schmidt grew up in Gelsenkirchen and practiced gardening and landscaping from 1972 to 1975. From 1975 to 1980 he completed an apprenticeship in landscape architecture at the Weihenstephan University in Freising . After graduating in 1980, he began working as a landscape architect in Gottfried Hansjakob's office, and soon became an office manager as a senior landscape architect . Since 1986 he has been a registered landscape architect of the Bavarian Chamber of Architects. In 1991 he founded the office of Rainer Schmidt landscape architects and urban planners in Munich and Berlin and accepted an offer for a professorship in landscape architecture at the Beuth University of Applied Sciences in Berlin .

Schmidt held visiting professorships at the University of California, Berkeley , USA, in 2007 and at the University of Peking , China, in 2004. Since 2005 he has been a member of the executive committee of the German Society for Garden Art and Landscape Culture, Berlin, Germany (DGGL), since 2008 urban planner for the Bavarian Chamber of Architects.
