Rainer Slotta (born May 1, 1946 in Braunschweig ) is a German industrial archaeologist. He became internationally known for his more than 400 publications. From 1987 to 2012 he was director of the German Mining Museum in Bochum .

Life

Rainer Slotta studied from 1966 to 1974 at the Saarland University in Saarbrücken and at the Technical University of Braunschweig in the subjects of architectural and art history , Near Eastern archeology , prehistory and early history , classical archeology and medieval history . During his studies he took part in the excavations at Tell Kāmid el-Lōz ( Lebanon ) and Mumbaqat ( Syria ). Slotta received her PhD in 1974. phil. at the University of Saarland Saarbrücken with the topic “Romanesque architecture in the Lorraine department of Meurthe-et-Moselle”.

He received a Thyssen scholarship at the German Mining Museum in Bochum and became a research assistant there in 1977. He later headed the “Technical Monuments” department. In 1987 Slotta was appointed director of the "German Mining Museum Bochum". In 1997 he was awarded the title of "Professor" by the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia.

  • 2002: Awarded the "Order of Dignity" by Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze .
  • 2006: Awarded the Agricola medal by the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, Raw Material and Environmental Technology e. V.
  • 2006: Award of the plaque of honor of the city of Goslar.
  • 2010: Award of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany by the Federal President.
