Rainer Werning (* 1949 in Münster ) is a German political scientist and journalist with a focus on Southeast and East Asia. He spent several years in the Philippines . Various publications document his studies and research. He works as an author for print media in Germany and abroad as well as in radio.

Life

From 1968 Rainer Werning traveled to several countries in South, Southeast and East Asia (including India and Nepal in 1968, Thailand and Laos in 1969, further study visits to Thailand, Laos, the Philippines, Korea: South and North). From his research on these trips, he has produced a large number of publications.

From 1979 to 1985 Werning studied social and political sciences, literature and philosophy at the University of Osnabrück and had study visits to the University of Hull , Sophia University in Tokyo, the University of the Philippines in Quezon City and Columbia University in New York. He received his doctorate in the summer of 1984. rer. pole.

Since then, Werning has worked professionally as a book author, editor, freelance journalist in print media and for public broadcasters, as well as a lecturer in adult education institutions. Most recently as a Philippines and Korea lecturer at the Academy for International Cooperation (AIZ) in Bad Honnef, lecturer at the Department of Cultural and Social Sciences at the University of Osnabrück, Affiliated Fellow of Southeast Asian Studies at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. From 2010 to 2013 Werning was a lecturer at the Institute for Oriental and Asian Studies at the University of Bonn (Department for Southeast Asian Studies ). He has been intensively involved in solidarity with the Philippines since the declaration of martial law under Marcos. He worked on several projects with Maria Lourdes U. There is also a wide range of collaborations with solidarity organizations such as medico international, Bread for the World, Foundation for Children and Korea Association e. V. Werning founded the Korea Forum in 1986 and was chairman of the board of the Korea-Verband e. V. in Berlin. In 2004 he worked in the international movement against the arrest of Song Du-yul and published numerous statements on it.
