Rainer Wolf (born February 18, 1956 ) is a former German soccer player. Between 1977 and 1983 he played for Chemie Böhlen in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

Rainer Wolf began his career in the GDR-wide league in the 1973/74 season when he played two games in the second-rate GDR league with the 2nd team for 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig . After he had played 13 GDR league games with Lok II in 19747/75, the team was relegated to the district league . After winning the district championship, the 2nd team was integrated into the junior league . With the help of Wolf, the young locals became the first champions of the junior league in 1977.

For the 1977/78 season, Wolf moved to the league promoted chemistry Bohlen. There he was used as a defender in all league games up to the 14th match day, then fell out injured and had to start his military service in the National People's Army in May 1978 . In November 1979, Wolf returned to Chemie Böhlen. After relegation in 1979, the team played in the GDR league. Wolf was called up in the remaining 13 league games, and after Böhlen had become the season winner, Wolf also played in all eight games of the league promotion round, in which the Böhlen secured the promotion. In his second league season in 1980/81 Wolf was set as a regular player in the defense of Chemie Böhlen. He was only absent in two games, and he scored his only top division goal that season. This time Böhlen was only able to stay in the league for a year, but immediately fought his way back up. Wolf was involved with 21 appearances in the 22 GDR league games, with five goals and with seven appearances in eight promotion games and one goal. Wolf's third season in the league, in which he played 18 times as a defender, also ended with relegation. Then he completed two seasons with Chemie Böhlen until 1985 in the GDR league, in which he played 39 out of 56 point games and scored three more goals. In his last season, 1984/85, he was still elected team captain. After leaving higher-class football, he could look back on 56 league games (one goal), 88 GDR league games (eight goals) and 15 promotion games (one goal).
