Rainer de Vivie

Ernst Rainer de Vivie (born October 5, 1938 in Hamburg ) is a German heart surgeon and university professor .

Life

De Vivie completed his doctoral thesis at the University of Hamburg in 1963 (subject: "On the question of the gallstone ileus"). Josef Koncz's student completed his habilitation in 1975 at the Georg-August University in Göttingen and was appointed adjunct professor in 1978.

From 1988 until the beginning of his retirement in 2005 he was director of the heart center of the clinic and polyclinic for cardiac and thoracic surgery at the University Clinic Cologne . Together with his employees, he performed almost 16,000 heart operations, including heart transplants. Pediatric cardiac surgery was one of his specialties. Until 2007, de Vivie was a member of the Board of Trustees of the German Sport University Cologne (DSHS) and was a member of the University Council of the DSHS until 2013.

The German Society for Thoracic, Cardiovascular and Vascular Surgery awards the Ernst-Rainer de Vivie Award for "innovative and interdisciplinary scientific work on the research and treatment of congenital heart defects in infants, children and adults" with the Cologne-based Loni Page Foundation .
