Ralf Martin Meyer

Ralf Martin Meyer (born November 7, 1959 in Gießen ) has been Police President of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg since April 29, 2014 .

Life

Growing up in the small town of Wittingen in the Gifhorn district in Südostheide, Meyer graduated from high school in 1979 and then began training in middle service with the Hamburg police force. He started his professional career in the individual police station at PK 31 (Winterhude / Uhlenhorst) and at Kriminalkommissariat 15 ( Davidwache , St. Pauli ).

As a graduate in administration in the police department, Meyer finished his studies at what was then the Technical College for Public Administration in 1989. Meyer then went to the permanent detective service, deputy head of a special commission and operations leader in the mobile task force.

From 1995 to 1997 the higher service training took place at the Police Leadership Academy in Münster / Hiltrup. After the career examination in 1997 for career section III, he took over the management of the inter-agency project St. Georg until 1999 (control and coordination of inter-agency measures against the public manifestations of drug crime in Hamburg).

From 1999 to 2004, Meyer headed the Mobile Task Force of the Hamburg police force.

From 2004 to 2010 Meyer was press spokesman and head of press and public relations work for the Hamburg Police and from 2010 to 2012 deputy head of the Hamburg State Criminal Police Office .

From 2012 to 2013 he initially joined the “Academy of Police” project , of which he became head in October 2013. As the chief criminal director, Meyer had restructured the police academy comprehensively in terms of content, law and organization on behalf of the State Council of the Ministry of the Interior and Sport and set it up as a new training and further education facility for the Hamburg police.

The main focus of the academy's development lay in the increased strategic recruiting, the reorganization of the training system and the expansion of the theory-practice interlinking.

Since April 29, 2014 Meyer has been the 13th Police President of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, replacing the previous President Wolfgang Kopitzsch .

Meyer is married and has two grown children.
