Ralph Beneke

Ralph Beneke (* 1958 in Hameln ) is a German sports scientist , sports medicine specialist and university professor .

Life

Beneke studied medicine at the University of Cologne and wrote his doctoral thesis, which was accepted in 1988, on the subject of "Computed tomography as a method of muscle diagnostics with special consideration of the main motoric form of stress". Beneke graduated from the German Sport University Cologne (DSHS) in 1989. He worked at the Institute for Sports Medicine at the Free University of Berlin , where he received his habilitation in 1999. The title of his work was "Blood lactate with continuous performance".

In 2002, Beneke took up a professorship in applied physiology (biology) at the University of Essex in the UK and became head of the human performance department at the UK university. In 2011 he moved to the Philipps University of Marburg and became professor in the field of medicine, training and health at the Institute for Sports Science and Motology.

His work focuses on sport in old age, sport in childhood, conditional, tactical and technical aspects of disabled sport (especially blind football), lactate metabolism and sport with cardiac patients. He also delved into the running style of sprinter Usain Bolt .

Beneke is an association doctor for the German Disabled Sports Association (DBS) and a doctor for the national blind football team.
