Ralph Bloet (also Ralph III Bloet ) († before September 29, 1199 ) was an Anglo-Norman nobleman.

Ralph Bloet came from the Bloet family , a lower nobility family with estates in south west England and the Welsh Marches . Around 1157 he became the main heir of his father of the same name, Ralph II Bloet, and inherited estates in the south-east Welsh rule Striguil in Hampshire , Somerset , Wiltshire and Gloucestershire . As the most important vassal of the Striguil rule, he supported Richard de Clare , the Lord of Striguil, together with his younger brother Walter Bloet , in conquering the Irish rule of Leinster . In 1171 he was on the council of Clare at Waterford . After Clare's death in 1176, he and his younger brother William became stewards of Striguil and Chepstow Castle . He held this office until Michaelis 1188. Bloet also remained under William Marshal , who had married the Clare heiress Isabel , whose most important vassal in Striguil, and in 1189 testified to his documents. He died in early 1199. He made foundations for Godstow Abbey , where a sister of his was a nun.

Bloet had married Nest , a daughter of Iorwerth ab Owain , the Welsh prince of Caerleon . Around 1175 she was a lover of the English King Henry II , with whom she had a son, Morgan . Morgan grew up in the Bloet household. He had several children with Nest, including:

  • Ralph Bloet († 1241/1242)
  • Thomas († between 1211 and 1215)
  • Roland († 1217)
  • William († after 1261)
  • Petronilla ∞ Diarmait Mac Carthaig, King of Desmond

His heir was his eldest son Ralph, while his younger brother Robert took over the management of the estate during his minority .
