Ralph Duren "Ralphie" May (born February 17, 1972 in Chattanooga , Tennessee ; † October 6, 2017 in Las Vegas ) was an American comedian and actor .

life and career

May graduated from High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and then moved to Los Angeles in hopes of pursuing a career in the entertainment industry . In 2003 he took part in the first season of the talent show Last Comic Standing , in which he took second place and was only defeated in the final against Dat Phan . He then appeared on comedy shows such as The Wayne Brady Show and The Big Black Comedy Show . In 2004 May, who was already very overweight as a teenager, took part in the VH-1 show Celebrity Fit Club to reduce his weight.

His first stage program Just Correct appeared in 2005 , followed by the four Comedy Central specials Girth of a Nation (2006), Prime Cut (2007), Austin-tatious (2008) and Too Big To Ignore (2012). For Netflix he acted in the specials Unruly (2015) and Imperfectly Yours (2015).

May had been married to his colleague Lahna Turner since 2005, with whom he had two children. The couple separated in 2015 but remained married until May's death. On October 6, 2017, May suffered cardiac arrest as a result of pneumonia .
