Ramón Reichert (* 1966 in Graz ) is an Austrian cultural and media theorist .

Life

After studying philosophy, culture and media studies in Berlin, London and Vienna, he has been visiting professor for film and media studies at the Institute for Theater, Film and Media Studies at the University of Vienna since 2009 . From 2003 to 2009 he was an assistant at the Institute for Media Theory at the Art University Linz . 2001 PhD at the University of Vienna. In 2008 he completed his habilitation in the field of media theory and media studies at the University of Artistic and Industrial Design in Linz . 2006–2009 he was key researcher at the Institute for European History and Public Relations at the Ludwig Boltzmann Society in Vienna and 2006/07 curator of the Siemens Arts Program. In 2005 he received the Theodor-Körner-Förderungspreis for his research project “Media Cultures of Life. Biopolitics in the 19th and 20th centuries ”. In 2008/09 he was a Research Fellow at the International Research Center for Cultural Studies (IFK) in Vienna.

Reichert's research on media history and theory and on the analysis of cultural and social processes deal with cross-media issues and are geared towards interdisciplinary cooperation with art and cultural studies research areas. In doing so, he connects reflections on the history of knowledge and culture to power-analytical, popular and media-cultural, scientific history and gender-political issues. His main research interests are the history and theory of documentary media, media history as discourse history, narrative theory, media archeology and visual culture.
