Ramal de Paraoquena

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ramal de Paraoquena is a railway line in Brazil .

history

The Ramal de Paraoquena was built and opened between 1883 and 1891 by the Estrada de Ferro Leopoldina railway company . It was a connection between the Linha de Manhuaçu in Cisneiros and the Linha de Campos - Miracema in Paraoquena.

Independent passenger trains ran between these two places, so you had to change trains. It was not until late in the 1960s that direct trains were used between Recreio station and Campos, which made it unnecessary to change trains. Officially, this route was never closed. Although today there is only minimal freight traffic and no passenger traffic, this route is a fast connection between the Cataguazes region in Minas Gerais and Campos in the state of Rio de Janeiro .
