Ramana is a settlement (qəsəbə) on the Abşeron Peninsula in Azerbaijan . It belongs to the Sabunçu district of the capital Baku . The place had about 12,400 inhabitants in 2014.
The place may have been founded by the Roman army under Lucius Julius Maximus , Legio XII Fulminata , between AD 84 and 96. Ramana is home to the Ramana Castle and a mosque from 1323.
In May 2007 a new district was completed, in which mainly refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh live.
