Randall William Cook

Randall "Randy" William Cook (* 1951 or 1952) is an American special effects artist who has received three Academy Awards for Best Visual Effects .

Life

He graduated from Castro Valley High School in Castro Valley , California in 1969 . He then went to the University of California film school until 1975 , where he studied acting. This was followed by an animation training program at Disney, where he was supposed to work, among other things, as the voice of Mickey Mouse, but refused. The first feature film, The Crater Lake Monster , followed in 1977 , in which he worked as an assistant model animator.

From 1984 to 1985 he worked for the special effects company Entertainment Effects Group (renamed Boss Film Studios in 1984 ) on films such as 2010: The Year We Make Contact , Ghostbusters - The Ghostbusters, and The Black Night - Fright Night . In the nineties, films followed such as Dragonworld , for which he worked for the first time as head of digital effects, and Highway to Hell . From 2001 he was employed as animation designer for the Lord of the Rings trilogy at Weta Digital . Here he was particularly known for the animation of Gollum . He received three Oscars for the trilogy in the Best Visual Effects category .
