Castro Valley is a city in Alameda County in the US state of California , United States , with 61,388 inhabitants (as of 2010). The urban area has an area of ​​38.2 km².

The city was named after the Spanish landowner and sheep farmer "Don Castro" , the former owner of the area. He lost all of his country in a card game. In the 1940s and 1950s, the city was known for its many poultry farms . It later became a dormitory town where people lived and lived but drove outside to work.
