Randolph Rogers (born July 6, 1825 in Waterloo (New York) , † January 15, 1892 in Rome ) was an American sculptor and a representative of neoclassicism .

Life

Randolph Rogers was a son of John and Sarah Rogers. The family moved to Ann Arbor when he was a child . In 1937 Randolph Rogers started working in a bakery there. About ten years later, Rogers moved to New York, where he wanted to start a career as an artist. At first, however, he did not succeed in gaining a foothold in the art world, and he could only make small sculptures out of soap or plaster of paris in his spare time. When he showed his employer, John Steward, a portrait bust that he had made of him, Steward decided to pay for Rogers' training as an artist.
