Randy Bernard

Randall "Randy" Bernard (* 31 January 1967 ) is an American sports - functionary . From 1995 to 2010 he was Managing Director of Professional Bull Riders . From 2010 to October 2012 he was Chief Executive Officer of the automobile sports organizer IndyCar .

Career

Professional Bull Riders (1995-2010)

In 1995, Bernard founded the Professional Bull Riders , a professional bull riding league . He headed the Professional Bull Riders as managing director until early 2010. During his time, the Professional Bull Riders developed into a "multi-million dollar company".

IndyCar (2010 to 2012)

At the beginning of February 2010, Bernard was introduced as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the racing organizer Indy Racing League . He succeeded Tony George , who had resigned in the summer of 2009. In this role, Bernard is mainly responsible for the organization of the IndyCar Series . According to his own statements, he had never seen an IndyCar race on site before this engagement. One year after his tenure began, the organizer was renamed IndyCar .

During Bernard's tenure, the introduction of a new chassis for the IndyCar Series, the Dallara DW12 , as well as the introduction of new engine regulations that bring more manufacturers into the racing category. One of Bernard's goals is to balance the ratio of oval and non-oval courses in the IndyCar Series.

Another focus of Bernard is increasing the marketing of the IndyCar Series. For the season finale of the IndyCar Series season 2011 , he offered a bonus of five million US dollars, in the event that a guest starter would win this race. Though 34 drivers registered for the race, which was a new record for a race outside of the Indianapolis 500 , there was no guest starter. Instead, Dan Wheldon was given the opportunity to win half the premium with a win. The other half would have gone to a fan. However, Wheldon had a fatal accident in the race. He was involved in a mass accident involving 15 vehicles. On October 28, 2012, IndyCar's board of directors announced that Bernard had been fired.
