Raposeira is a place and a former municipality on the Portuguese south coast, the Algarve .
The place is located in the Natural Park Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina .
There is no connection to the well-known Portuguese sparkling wine of the same name, which is a brand from Lamego .
history
Finds prove a prehistoric settlement. Henry the Navigator is said to have lived here in the 15th century, but only evidence of his attendance at mass in the chapel of Ermida da Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe is documented . The chapel was founded by the Knights Templar in the 13th century during the Reconquista .
administration
Raposeira was the seat of a community of the same name ( Freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) of Vila do Bispo in the Faro district . The community had 469 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).

With the municipal reorganization of September 29, 2013, the municipalities of Raposeira and Vila do Bispo were merged to form the new municipality of Vila do Bispo e Raposeira .
Attractions
The chapel of Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe from the 13th century is located in the area of the former municipality of Raposeira.
The Aspradantes menhir is made of white limestone and is about 2.20 meters high. It is a listed building.
