Rare Bird was a British progressive rock band from Birmingham , formed in 1969 .
history
The music of the first two albums, Rare Bird (1969) and As Your Mind Flies By (1970), was dominated by keyboards , guitars were not used. The ballad Sympathy reached number 24 in the British charts in March 1970. This song was covered by The Family Dogg in 1970 , Daliah Lavi in 1971 , Marillion in 1992, and Faithless in 2001 as "Not Enuff Love" . At the end of 1975 the band broke up after commercial success failed to materialize despite good reviews and Graham Field wanted to concentrate on his own project. Later, Mark Ashton also took up a solo career.
In 1972 Rare Bird became active again with the album Epic Forest . In addition to the remaining founding members, singer / bassist Steve Gould and keyboardist David Kaffinetti, the new line-up included drummer Fred Kelly, guitarist Andy "Seth" Curtis and bassist Nick Potter (previously with Van der Graaf Generator ). The following year, an album with funk elements was released, Somebody's Watching . On this album the regular cast was supported by three percussionists , Al Matthews, Sammy Abu and Paul Holland, and the singer Kevin Lamb. The title Dollars is an interpretation of Ennio Morricone's film music for For a Few Dollars More . In 1974 the last album was Born Again with bassist Andy Rae. The following year the band broke up after commercial success continued to fail.
