The Siamese dwarf harlequin ( Trigonostigma somphongsi ) is a small carp fish from the Mae Nam Mae Klong and Mae Nam Chao Phraya river basins in Thailand . The species was named after the Thai ornamental fish trader and catcher of the type specimens Somphong.
features
The freshwater fish only reaches a body length of three centimeters, the male remains even smaller. The body is elongated, laterally flattened and, in contrast to the other harlequin harlequin, not high back. The body color is yellowish to light brownish, the back side shows a network drawing. Two longitudinal ligaments run along the sides of the body. The upper one shines golden and begins behind the gill cover , while the lower one begins below the origin of the dorsal fin, extends to the caudal fin root and is dark to black. Another dark longitudinal band forms a black triangle above the anal fin. The fins are transparent and have a delicate brownish to yellowish tint. A sideline is missing.
- Fin formula : Dorsal : 2 / 6–7; Anal : 2/5.
- Scale formula : mLR 24–25.
Similar to the related harlequin harlequin , the Siamese dwarf harlequin spawns below a plant leaf. The clutch is small and contains only about 70 eggs.
