Rasha Khayat
Rasha Khayat (born 1978 in Dortmund ) is a Saudi-Arabic-German translator and writer.
Life
Rasha Khayat is a German author and translator. She grew up in Jeddah , Saudi Arabia. In 1988 the family moved back to Germany. Rasha Khayat graduated from high school in 1999 at the Ratsgymnasium Gladbeck. 1999-2005 she studied comparative literature, modern German literature and philosophy at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn . In 2005 she completed a traineeship in the editing department at Rowohlt Verlag and has lived in Hamburg ever since .
She works as a freelance writer and translator from English and Arabic for fiction and theater.
Since 2010 she has been running the blog West Eastern Diva - The German Window to Arabistan . In 2010 she was a scholarship holder of the Jürgen Ponto Foundation .
Her first novel was published in 2016 because we have long been elsewhere . The novel was nominated for the Klaus Michael Kühne Prize for the best novel debut.
In 2016 she was Writer in Residence at the University of East Anglia , Norwich.
