Kühne Foundation

The Kühne Foundation is a non-profit Swiss foundation based in Schindellegi , Schwyz . It was founded in 1976 by the heirs and entrepreneurs of the logistics group Kuehne + Nagel (K + N), Alfred Kuehne , his wife Mercedes and their son Klaus-Michael Kuehne . The foundation will later take over the billion-dollar corporate capital of Kühne Holding AG , which currently has a K + N share package amounting to 53 percent.

According to the statutes, the foundation pursues the “promotion of training and further education as well as science and research in the fields of transport and logistics”; it also promotes the “support of medical sciences, humanitarian and charitable issues and cultural projects”.

Projects

With a major donation of 30 million euros from the foundation, the Kühne School of Logistics and Management (KSL) was established in 2007 at the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg in a public-private partnership Management dedicates. In terms of the amount of funding, which is one of the largest single donations in the field of research funding in Germany, the Kühne School of Logistics and Management is the most important project of the Kühne Foundation.

In September 2010, the KSL was separated from the TUHH as an independent, private university and received state recognition in the same year. With its 15 chairs, the " Kühne Logistics University " offers around 170 students a choice of three master's, one MBA and one bachelor's degree. A Ph.D program has also been in place since 2012. At the end of 2013, it moved into its new headquarters in HafenCity.

The KLU is a member of the Hamburg Logistics Initiative.

Further logistics projects have been the Center for International Logistics Networks at the Technical University of Berlin since 2005 , which was expanded into the International Logistics Networks Department in 2009, and the Kühne Center for Logistics Management at the WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management since 2000 , which was expanded to include one in 2005 Chair in Logistics Management was added. The new project partner is the ETH Zurich . The German Foreign Trade and Transport Academy in Bremen is also supported. In the logistics area, for example, seminars, events and publications are also funded.

Further focal points are the cultural promotion in the form of literature promotion, music promotion, promotion of the Elbphilharmonie and art promotion as well as humanitarian projects, including homes and orphanages.

Under the name CK-CARE (Christine Kühne - Center for Allergy Research and Education) projects in the field of allergy research and health promotion of children are supported.
