Rashid Sharifi

Rashid Sharifi (* 21st September 1984 in Sedeh Lenjan , Isfahan ) is an Iranian weightlifter in the super heavyweight (over 105 kg).

Career

Sharifi moved up as an Iranian super heavyweight competitor behind double Olympic champion Hossein Rezazadeh at the 2008 Summer Olympics , who had announced his resignation shortly before the Beijing Games after a car accident. At the Olympic competition in the over 105 kg class, Sharifi had to compete in Group B, which was rated as weaker, without the title favorites, but in this he won with a 13 kg lead over the German Almir Velagic . Overall, he placed sixth and lifted 426 kg in tearing and pushing as the best Asian in Matthias Steiner's victory .

He had previously won gold at the 2008 Asian Championships in Kanazawa , Japan . He was also first at the Asian Championships in 2009 . However, he was tested positive for metandienone during the doping control and banned for two years.
