Rashid Sidek

Abdul Rashid Mohamed Sidek (born July 8, 1968 in Banting, Selangor ) is a former Malaysian badminton player . He is the second youngest of the six Sidek brothers. His siblings Jalani and Razif won bronze in doubles at Olympia in 1992 , the eldest brother Misbun won a. a. the German Open , Chinese Taipei Open and Singapore Open . Rahman Sidek, on the other hand, was rarely able to put himself in the front row internationally. The Sideks gained fame through an extremely cut surcharge they created, which was later banned by the IBF .

Career

Rashid Sidek won the national youth badminton championship in 1980 at the age of twelve and is the youngest winner to this day. In 1990 and 1994 he won the gold medal in singles at the Commonwealth Games in Auckland and Victoria . In addition, Rashid Sidek was Asian champion in 1992 . At the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta , Rashid Sidek won the bronze medal in the singles tournament. In the game for third place, he defeated the world champion Heryanto Arbi . In 1997 Rashid Sidek was number one in the world rankings.

Today Rashid Sidek works as a trainer for the Badminton Association of Malaysia.
