The official seat and residence of the Indian President

Rashtrapati Bhavan (राष्ट्रपति भवन; Hindi for "House of the President", previously Viceroy's House ) is the official seat and residence of the Indian President . It stands west of India Gate and comprises 340 rooms on 4 floors. The construction volume is 240,000 m³. The main entrance is on Prakash Vir Shastri Avenue.

When planning New Delhi , Edwin Landseer Lutyens was primarily responsible for building the viceroy's palace . Its design is largely historical , with some details taking up influences from Indian architecture such as Chhatri and Jali . The floor plan provided for two wings: one for the viceroy, the other for guests. Contrary to the original plan, the rulers always lived in the smaller guest wing, while the larger wing is not used as a residence, but for state receptions and as a guest house for state guests.

The construction period lasted from 1912 to 1929. Since 1950 the palace has been the seat of the Indian President.
