history

A town hall in Leobschütz was first mentioned in 1383 when the city belonged to the Duchy of Leobschütz . In 1570 the Gothic town hall was rebuilt in the Renaissance style. The town hall burned down during a large fire in 1603. In 1606 the town hall was rebuilt in the Renaissance style and restored in 1676. From 1862 to 1864 the building was rebuilt in neo-Gothic style according to plans by the architect Carl Johann Lüdecke from Wroclaw . From 1931 to 1936 the town hall was restored under the direction of Paul Klehr. The tower received a sgraffito . Klehr had the "Iron Woyrsch", a memorial to the Prussian Field Marshal Remus von Woyrsch , moved from the facade of the tower to the inside of the town hall. The Woyrschdenkmal was the work of the Leobschützer sculptor Paul Ondrusch .

When the Red Army marched into Leobschütz in early 1945, the town hall was partially destroyed. It remained in a ruinous condition and continued to deteriorate in the years to come, with the building blocks gradually being removed. The remains were only secured in 1972. The tower and the facades on the ground floor have been preserved.

In 2004 the ruins became the property of the town of Głubczyce. In 2006, the reconstruction of the town hall began, but not in the original condition from the time before the destruction. The work was completed in 2008. On April 26, 2008 the town hall tower received a new spire.
