Löbejün town hall

The town hall of Löbejün is a monument in the town of Wettin-Löbejün in the Saalekreis in Saxony-Anhalt .

Location and history

In 1816, shortly after the Wars of Liberation, an imposing nine-axis residential building for the treasurer was built on the south side of the market in the small town of Löbejün, with a mix of baroque and classicism elements. The city had had a town hall since 1502, which was destroyed by fire in 1583. The new building, which took place in the 17th century, came into private ownership in 1836 and the house on the market was acquired by the city treasury and made the city's new town hall.

In addition to two rows of bat dormers on the roof, the central projectile is particularly noticeable. Its portal is accentuated by a flight of stairs and two columns with capitals; there is also a relief sculpture of a sphinx above the entrance. Next to the stairs, a mosaic of Löbejün's coat of arms was embedded in the floor. Today the building is the seat of the administration of the city Wettin-Löbejün. It is under monument protection and is registered in the monument register with registration number 094 55245.
