Johann Matthias Florin
Johann Matthias Florin (born July 6, 1680 in Siegen , † September 14, 1751 in Herborn ) was a German university professor .
Life
Johann Matthias Florin was the son of Johann Heinrich Florin's first marriage (* 1650 in Niederneisen near Diez , † January 17, 1700 in Herborn), professor at the High School in Herborn .
In his earliest youth he received lessons in classical philology from his father and then attended the high school in Herborn. He continued his education mainly in languages and heard lectures from Johann Heinrich Schramm and Karl Andreas Duker .
In 1699 he accompanied his father to Basel, where he was awarded the doctorate.
His first employment took place in Siegen, when he became vice rector until 1707 he was given the post of pedagogical archen at the academic pedagogy of the High School in Herborn; in this office he taught rhetoric, history and the Greek language for forty-two years until his death, during which time he was academic vice-rector in 1738, 1743 and 1745 ..
In 1709, as the successor to Johann Heinrich Schramm, he was given the post of consistorial councilor and first preacher in Dillenburg .
Johann Matthias Florin was married to Ester (* 1693; † November 24, 1726), daughter of councilor Daniel van den Velde, since February 17, 1717 . In 1729 he married Catharine Pelzer (born March 31, 1753), widow of the pastor Müller from Diebach near Offenbach ; together they had four sons, two of whom died in their early teens:
- Carl Friedrich Florin, studied in Herborn in 1732 and died as a lawyer ;
- Ludwig Wilhelm Florin (born November 7, 1726), Rector in Laasphe .
