Town hall in Salzmünde

The town hall of Salzmünde is a monument in the municipality of Salzatal in the Saale district in Saxony-Anhalt .

Building description and history

In the settlement between Salzmünde and Schiepzig , which emerged as an expression of the new self-confidence of the place and is now called the town hall settlement, a town hall in the Franconian style was built in 1921 and 1922. It is a typical work of eclecticism , combines Gothic windows and doors with arched windows, half-timbered core, a balcony porch made of stone and slates on the clock gable. The architect was Paul Grempler, from whom part of the development of the Rathenauplatz and the Urania 70 cinema comes from in nearby Halle (Saale) .

Initially, the town hall also housed the bathroom and library for the employees of the Wentzel companies as well as apartments for the seed breeding director and the social secretary. A fountain was built in front of the building. The town hall is a monument to a development that has stopped. It was built with the foresight that Salzmünde would become a town, which then did not happen. It is under monument protection and is registered in the monument register with the number 094 55143. Today the building is the administrative seat of the municipality of Salzatal.
