The former town hall of Weikertschlag an der Thaya in Lower Austria is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

After a fire in 1755, a chapel-like building with an onion dome for the train bell was erected on the main square of Weikertschlag an der Thaya on the place of a hexagonal guard tower . This later served as a fire station for the voluntary fire brigade of the market founded in 1877 . Presumably local council meetings were also held here, as it was sometimes referred to as the town hall.

The town hall in its current form was built in 1932 according to plans by the master builder and architect Franz Vogler from Raabs an der Thaya - the Dehio calls it Emmerich Siegris . The inauguration took place on September 3, 1933.

In addition to the municipal administration, the new town hall also provided space for the post office, the Raiffeisenkasse, the municipal library and the fire brigade on the ground floor.

With the incorporation of Weikertschlag into Raabs an der Thaya in 1971 , the town hall lost its function as an administrative building. Today it houses the Weikertschlag branch of Raiffeisenkasse Thayatal Mitte on the ground floor and the local museum, which has existed since 1994, on the upper floor.

description

The town hall was built as a two-storey romanized building with an inserted tower and curved stepped gables . The staircase to the first floor on the east side is protected by arcades .
