Compton Bennett

Compton Bennett (born January 15, 1900 in Tunbridge Wells , Kent, † August 13, 1974 in London ) was a British film director .

Life

Compton Bennett began his career in the film industry as a film editor . After directing a few short films and training films for the British Army, his first full-length feature film, The Last Veil in 1945, was a great success, which earned him a contract with a US film company. In Hollywood, however, Bennett was less successful and returned to England in the early 1950s. His other films no longer met with audiences, and so from the 1960s onwards he was only able to work occasionally for television.
