Ferdinand Hucho

Ferdinand Hucho (born August 14, 1939 in Berlin ) is a German biochemist and professor emeritus at the Free University of Berlin . Hucho has mainly researched neurochemistry .

Life

Hucho graduated from high school in 1958 at the humanistic grammar school ( cathedral school ) in Schleswig . He studied chemistry at the University of Freiburg , where he graduated from Kurt Wallenfels in 1964 . In 1968 he was also in Wallenfels in Freiburg with the work The enzymatically catalyzed Mutarotation the aldose doctorate . From 1969 to 1970 he was a postdoc in LJ Reed's laboratory in Austin, Texas, where he researched pyruvate dehydrogenase and its regulation in the metabolism of mammals. In 1971 he became a research assistant at the University of Konstanz , where he completed his habilitation in 1974. In 1975 he was appointed university lecturer at the University of Konstanz, and in 1978 he was appointed professor. In 1979 Hucho became C3 professor at the University of Konstanz, in the same year he moved to the Free University of Berlin, where he was C3 professor until 1989. In 1989 he received professorships in Giessen and Cologne, since 1990 he has been researching as a C4 professor at the Free University of Berlin, and in 2005 he retired.

Since 1997 he has been a member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences (BBAW) and since June 2002 "Secretary" of the bioscientific medical class of the BBAW.

Hucho held various functions in specialist societies and helped organize numerous conferences, for example various conferences in Berlin and Russia between 1982 and 2002, together with colleagues from the Soviet and Russian Academy of Sciences. From 1997 to 1999 he was Dean of the Chemistry Department at the FU, since 2001 he has been President of the European Society for Neurochemistry, he is on the Editorial Board of the European Journal of Biochemistry and was co-author of the genetic engineering report of the BBAW.
