Ratscha ( Georgian რაჭა , rɑt͡ʃʼɑ ) is a historical-geographical province in Georgia. It is located in north-eastern western Georgia, in the Rioni Gorge. In the north, Ratscha becomes part of Russia (with the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania and a short section of Kabardino-Balkaria ), in the north-west of the historically Georgian province of Svaneti , in the west of Letschchumi , in the south of Imeretia and in the east of the historical Kartlien (today Inner Kartlien , de facto South Ossetia ). Ratscha was historically divided into three sub-provinces: Berg-Ratscha (Georgian მთის რაჭა , Mtis Ratscha ) , Oberratscha ( ზემო რაჭა , Semo Ratscha ) and Niederratscha ( ქვემო რაჭა , Kwemo Ratscha ). Today Ratscha is part of the Ratscha-Letschchumi and Lower Vanetia region and includes the municipalities of Ambrolauri and Oni .
