Raul Siem

Raul Siem (born June 5, 1973 ) is an Estonian entrepreneur, lawyer and politician. Since April 21, 2020 he has been Minister for Foreign Trade and Information Technology of the Republic of Estonia in the Ratas II cabinet .

Life

Raul Siem graduated from the police school in Paikuse, West Estonia . He graduated from the Estonian Security Academy (Eesti Riigikaitse Akadeemia ) in 1996 . In 2002 he graduated in law from the Tallinn branch of the University of Tartu .

From 1999 to 2007 Raul Siem worked at the Estonian Tax Office (maksuamet) . From 2007 to 2011 he was the deputy director of Tallinn Prison. From 2011 to 2018, Siem worked as an attorney at the law firm Hansa Law . In 2018 he founded his own legal advice office.

politics

In August 2016, Siem joined the right-wing populist Estonian Conservative People's Party (Eesti Konservatiivne Rahvaerakond - EKRE) . In 2017, Siem entered the Rae Town Council for the party .

When EKRE joined the coalition government of Prime Minister Jüri Ratas after the parliamentary elections in 2019 , Raul Siem became an advisor to the Estonian Interior Minister Mart Helme , who was also EKRE party chairman. After the Minister for Foreign Trade and Information Technology appointed by the EKRE, the non-party Kaimar Karu , fell out with party leader Mart Helme after six months in office, the party nominated Raul Siem as his successor. Raul Siem took office on April 21st.

Raul Siem is married and has three children.
