Ravenea albicans is classified as "Critically Endangered" and is threatened by habitat loss. There are maybe 200 individuals capable of flowering. In its natural environment, it usually grows in moist forests in the mountain valleys of north-eastern Madagascar.

description

It is unique in the genus Ravenea in that its pinnate leaves have an exotic, colorful appearance. The specific epithet albicans is derived from the Latin word album for the color white, as is the word for albinism . The base of each frond is green, but later turns white to dark gray near the tip; some individuals have completely white fronds.
