Ravindra "Ravi" Vimal Jayewardene (born April 22, 1936 - April 2, 2017 ) was a Sri Lankan pilot and marksman . He was the son of JR Jayewardene and served as a National Security Adviser in his father's administration.
As a child of JR Jayewardene and Elina Jayewardene, Jayewardene was educated at the Royal College Colombo. To avoid a political career, he became a pilot at Air Ceylon . He was still an officer in the Ceylon Army with the rank of captain . He took in the discipline small caliber lying at the 1964 Summer Olympics in part. In 1966 he took part in sport shooting at the Commonwealth Games in the Jamaican capital Kingston , where, however, could only occupy the 24th and 29th place in the competitions. In 1971, during the JVP insurrection , he was arrested by the police. He then left the country and lived as a Buddhist monk in Thailand. He returned to Sri Lanka in 1983 to ensure the safety of his father, who was now president. He was appointed to the National Security Adviser . In this role he founded the Special Task Force and other new regiments of the Sri Lanka Army.
