Raymond James "Ray" Edwards (* 1. January 1985 in Cincinnati , Ohio ) is a former American American football poker players on the position of the defensive ends . He for the Minnesota Vikings and the Atlanta Falcons in the National Football League (NFL). After his football career, he devoted himself to boxing .
Career
college
Edwards played three years college football in the Big Ten Conference for Purdue University . He played 36 games, 18 of them in the starting lineup. He came up with 16 sacks . He received his biggest award in his freshman year, when he was named to the All-Freshmen team by The Sporting News magazine .
NFL career
2006 Ray Edwards came into the NFL Draft , where the Minnesota Vikings signed him in the fourth round. In his rookie year , he played 15 of 16 games, more than any other Vikings rookie this season. He came up with three sacks and ten tackles . The following season he played only twelve games, but improved his personal season record to five sacks and 30 tackles. He also scored his first touchdown against the Detroit Lions . Towards the end of the season he was suspended for four games for taking prohibited substances ( steroids ).
In the 2008 season he improved his season record again, this season he achieved 55 tackles with another five sacks. The following year he was most successful with 8.5 sacks. The Vikings did not initially extend his contract, but signed him again in June 2010.
On July 29, 2011, Ray Edwards signed a five-year contract with the Atlanta Falcons . The Falcons kicked Edwards off the roster in November 2012. After the surprise expulsion, Edwards ended his NFL career and became a professional boxer.
