Raymond is a city in Warner County in southern Alberta , Canada . Located south of Lethbridge on Alberta Highway 52 , it is known for hosting the Raymond Stampede , Canada's first rodeo , which has been held annually since 1902.
history
Raymond was founded in 1901 by mining and industrial tycoon Jesse Knight, who named the town after his son. On July 1, 1903, Raymond received city status in the Northwest Territories . About two years later, on September 1, 1905, Raymond was accepted into the newly formed province of Alberta.
Demographics
In 2006, 3,205 people in 1,085 households lived in Raymond on an area of 4.75 km². This results in a population density of 674.1 inhabitants per square kilometer. The majority of the population are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints .
