Raymond Cicci (born August 11, 1929 in Audun-le-Tiche , Moselle department , † February 20, 2012 in Vias ) was a French football player .

The club career

The descendant of Italian immigrants to Lorraine was a worker in the Longwy steelworks , where he also played amateur football. In 1950 Stade de Reims , which at that time was only at the beginning of its successful period, noticed him and brought him to Champagne for the 1951/52 season . Raymond Cicci won a regular place almost immediately in the position of the left runner , which had become vacant due to the departure of André Petitfils , and had not shown any fear of big names: after all, Marche , Jonquet , the brothers Paul and Pierre were standing Sinibaldi , Méano , the Dutch goalgetter Bram Appel and player- coach Albert Batteux numerous national players in the ranks of the red and whites - and with Penverne and especially Raymond Kopa , who was also new to Reims, two other players who were predicted to have great careers. Cicci's first season as a professional ended with a 4th place in France's top division .

Just one year later (1952/53) the young Lorraine was already French champion and at the end of the season also winner of the Coupe Latine . Cicci had played every game in both competitions, including the final against AC Milan (3-0), and made such a good impression that he was called up to the national team shortly afterwards . 1954 followed a second place in the league, but also the disappointment that he was not part of the French squad for the 1954 World Cup . But already in 1955 Cicci was able to console himself with his second championship title - and as its "encore" with participation in the very first edition of the European Cup . Although he played the first five games, he was unable to play in the final due to an injury, which Stade de Reims lost on June 13, 1956 "without midfield" (Penverne was also injured) against Real Madrid 3: 4.

After a mixed season 1956/57, which Reims finished third in the table, he moved to the second division Limoges FC , with whom he was promoted to Division 1 a year later . Success like at Reims could not be achieved there, however, and when the club from the Limousin in 1961 relegated again, Raymond Cicci ended his professional career. He later settled in Languedoc , coached the Racing Club Agathois from Agde from 1969 to 1973 and worked as a sports teacher.
