Raymond Polin

Raymond Polin (born July 7, 1910 in Briançon , † February 8, 2001 ) was a French philosopher . From 1976 to 1981 he was President of the Sorbonne .

Life

After studying philosophy at the École normal supérieure in Paris , he worked from 1935 to 1938 as assistant to Célestin Bouglé in the "Center de documentation sociale", where his interest in the social sciences developed. Among other things, he was a participant in the seminars of George Bataille and Alexandre Kojève . He received his doctorate in 1945 under Maurice Halbwachs .

In 1945 he was appointed professor at the University of Lille . In 1961 he received the chair for political philosophy at the Sorbonne, whose president he became in 1976. His presidency ended in 1981, and in that year he also became a member of the Académie des sciences morales et politiques . From 1980 to 2001 he was chairman of the Thiers Foundation . He is the father of the philosopher Claude Polin .
