Raymond Tunia
Raymond "Ray" Tunia (born May 10, 1916 - August 16, 1983 ) was an American rhythm and blues and jazz musician ( piano , arrangement ).
Live and act
Tunia, who came from Atlantic City , played from the early 1940s in the bands of Doc Wheeler , Chris Columbus , Lucky Millinder , with The Delta Rhythm Boys and in 1944 with Tab Smith , also as an arranger with the Ink Spots , and for Cootie Williams . In the post-war period he worked as a pianist with Pearl Bailey (" Ain't She Sweet "), Sister Rosetta Tharpe , Big John Greer , Julian Dash and in 1950 again with Millinder. In 1953 he accompanied Ella Fitzgerald at oneJazz at the Philharmonic toured and also acted as its musical director; he also accompanied the singer in 1961 with Wilfred Middlebrooks , Gus Johnson , Ray Brown and Buddy Rich on her appearance in Amsterdam. 1957/58 Tunia played with Cab Calloway / Eddie Barefield and as accompanist of the singer Mae Barnes . In the field of jazz he was involved in 33 recording sessions between 1941 and 1976, most recently in the mid-1970s with Eddie Durham and Vic Dickenson ( Plays Bessie Smith ).
