Farhan began his career in 1994 with al-Qouwa al-Jawia, where he played until after moving to Qatar in 2002. There he was active at Qatar SC and Al-Shamal Sports Club before moving to ar-Riffa in Bahrain in 2004 . Farhan was unable to establish himself there, however, and moved to the second division of the United Arab Emirates after a season at SC Dubai . After brief stays in Bahrain and Jordan, he returned to Iraq in 2009 and has since worked for al-Qouwa al-Jawia again. He ended his career in 2012.

Razzaq Farhan was appointed to the Iraqi national team for the first time in 1999. He took part with Iraq in the Asian Championships in Lebanon in 2000 and in China in 2004 , and was part of the Iraqi squad during the 2004 Olympic Games . Farhan scored a total of 25 goals in 62 games. In April 2007 Farhan was suspended from the Iraqi national team for two years and resigned that same year.
