Reach stacker

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Reach Stacker isolated, on German reachstackers called, are trucks that for stacking and handling of containers from the ground or from and to rail cars or to and swap bodies are used. These are heavy wheeled vehicles with a lifting capacity of up to 50 tons and a dead weight of around 100 tons.

In contrast to conventional forklifts , the spreader (load handling device) in reach stackers is not mounted on a mast, but at the end of an inclined arm similar to that of a telescopic crane or telescopic loader . This enables the reach stacker to grip the loading units from above, if necessary over other containers. Modern vehicles can extend two container widths and thus stack containers up to the third row. You can also reach across a track and, for example, reload containers directly from one train to the train on the neighboring track. A conventional forklift would have to maneuver and turn every container for this.

Reach Stacker a low-cost alternative to have especially for small handling terminals gantry cranes and straddle carriers (English straddle carriers ). By including a special harness, the so-called “ piggyback spreader ” (sometimes disfiguring the meaning of the word to “ piggyback ” - English for piggyback  - shortened), complete semi-trailers can also be picked up and z. B. put on wagons, which can often be seen in intermodal transport .

The main manufacturers of reach stackers include Konecranes , Terex , Kalmar , CVS Ferrari (Belotti) , Liebherr , Linde , Hyster , Sany and the Kion Group .
