music

Musically, arena-rock guitar elements are inserted into the background in synth-pop . After a quiet intro, the piece develops into a fast pop song with a pounding rhythm and fanfare-like keyboard sounds.

Creation and publication

In addition to disco and film music, for which he was known, Moroder also often worked on the accompanying music for sporting events, such as the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic Games or the 1990 World Cup , for which he would later play Un'estate italiana , sung by Gianna Nannini and Edoardo Bennato , wrote. Paul Engemann was a rather unknown singer at the time, who soon sang for the band Animotion .

The song reached the top of the charts in Germany , where public television often played it in broadcasts, as well as number two in Switzerland , in the Netherlands it made it to number 47. In the USA itself, however, it only reached number 81.

The B-side of the single contained a 2:51 minute long instrumental version.

Music video

The music video was compiled from almost unprocessed image material, including those of the eliminations before the games (trials) in the USA. You can see athletes like Carl Lewis , but also athletes from other countries such as Jürgen Hingsen from Germany. A gold medal for the games is also displayed. The change in tempo of the song is symbolized by the shot from a sporting weapon.

Cover versions

Cover versions exist by Ricky Shayne (1984), Karel Gott (1999) and Lichtenfels (2003).
