Reckless were a Canadian hard rock and heavy metal band in the early 1980s.
history
The band was initially formed under the name Harlow by Steven Madden, with the vocals initially being female. The band soon changed their line-up and name, as there was already an American band of the same name . Steve Madden (lead guitar, acoustic guitar, vocals), Jan Melanson (lead vocals), Gene Stout (bass, vocals) and Gil Roberts (drums, percussion) under the name Harlow. The combination of commercial, guitar-based Van Halen- style heavy metal, influenced by Malanson's idiosyncratic vocal interludes, resulted in a generally good reception by the audience. Coupled with the bright blonde look of the front woman, this seemed to give Reckless the chance to stand out from the crowd. However, the album flopped and the band broke up. A second attempt by Steve Madden with other musicians was also unsuccessful.
style
According to Martin Popoff in his book The Collector's Guide of Heavy Metal Volume 2: The Eighties the band play on Heart of Steel melodic hard rock with catchy choruses. According to Tony Jasper and Derek Oliver in The International Encyclopedia of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal, the band play pop metal which is like a bad version of Van Halen . According to Alarich Augustin of Metal Hammer , the song structures on Heart of Steel would be reminiscent of Mötley Crües Shout at the Devil , while the vocals evoke memories of early Judas Priest .
