Red Lake [ ˈɹɛdˌleɪ̯k ] is a city in the northwest of the Canadian province of Ontario in the Kenora District .
Red Lake has a population of 8,500 and is located on the shores of Red Lake near Gullrock Lake . The city has a museum and is close to the Woodland Caribou Provincial Park and Pakwash Provincial Park . The Red Lake Mine of Goldcorp , the richest gold mine in the world, is located on site.
Red Lake is also called the Noorduyn-Norseman -Hauptstadt the world ( Norseman Capital of the World referred).
history
From 1926, when gold was discovered in Red Lake , the city grew rapidly. The water aerodrome Howey Bay at the time was the busiest airport in the world.
Between February 19 and 27, 1979 , 14 large sounding rockets and 19 small sounding rockets were launched from two places near Red Lake . They carried scientific experiments and were used to study the solar eclipse that occurred on February 26, 1979 . Some of the rockets reached space with summit heights over 100 kilometers.
climate
The first snow usually falls in late October and melts again in March. During this time, temperatures can drop to −35 degrees Celsius.
